IFDA

  • INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE DESIGN AWARD

The International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa (IFDA) is a triennial global design showcase held in Hokkaido’s Asahikawa City. For over 30 years since its 1990 inception, it has propelled the evolution of Asahikawa furniture and regional design identity.

This lounge chair embodies IFDA’s spirit through its sculptural yet ergonomic ambition. Its widened armrests provide unwavering support even when reclining diagonally. The design uses only two plywood sheets for the backrest, engineered to flex dramatically while maintaining seat geometry that prevents uncomfortable sinking. The prototype was crafted with the advanced technical expertise of Conde House.
