Ray tracing
- Experimental Creations 2016

There’s a mysterious allure in the way people are captivated by scenes refracted through transparent objects, like melted ice in a glass or the shimmering riverbed beneath swaying water. Harnessing this everyday phenomenon of light, this block was designed to intentionally transform the view through calculated refraction.
Using computer-simulated light paths, the incremental shift in refraction toward the edges is precisely controlled. By connecting 5mm planes in a grid, each at a varying angle, with seamless curvature, the surface appears smooth while randomizing light and color at every coordinate. The result is a solid object that dissolves reality in a fluid, poetic way.
